About the Burrows House
The Burrows House in Newport, Oregon was built in 1895 for Susan and John Burrows. The two were newlyweds at the time of its construction, and the house was originally located at the Coast Highway. Shortly after the house was finished building, it was turned into a boarding house shortly after Susan Burrows divorced John Burrows. In the divorce, Susan Burrows gained both the property and the house due to the fact the building had been constructed using her funds. During this time, the house was called ‘Sea View Rooms’. In 1919, Susan Burrows sold the house to the Hartley couple, and the boarding house was converted into a funeral parlor. It remained a funeral parlor before the house was sold in 1938. The Burrows House changed ownership several times before it was donated to the Lincoln County Historical Society in 1976. The building was officially converted into a museum in the year of 1978, turning the house into the museum it is today.
